Join experts from the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe to discover new perspectives on museum education. In this lecture, we will discuss how museums can use educational approaches to break down spatial, human, and sensory barriers. Drawing on our practical work at the ZKM, we will demonstrate how educational formats can be designed to incorporate diverse modes of perception and facilitate varied approaches to art. In doing so, we will reflect on how sensory and inclusive approaches can foster new relationships between visitors, space, and art.
Janine Burger, M.A., has headed the Department of Museum Communication at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe since 2006. Together with her team, she develops innovative projects for the interdisciplinary and participatory presentation of art and culture. For her, the museum is a place of connection—both analog and digital. It is a place of communication and horizontal knowledge exchange, as well as a source of inspiration for the intrinsic motivation to engage in lifelong learning. She acquired her expertise through studies in art history and media theory, painting and photography, and didactics.
Alexandra Hermann, M.A., is a research associate in the Museum Communication Department at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe. Her work focuses on the conception and implementation of large-scale educational projects, with a particular emphasis on fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between the education team, curatorial practice, and the museum’s accompanying program. She studied cultural anthropology and art history at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and subsequently earned a Master of Arts in Cultural Education from the University of Education Karlsruhe.
