“And aren't we all, to a greater or lesser extent, dreamers?” - F. Dostoevsky
In the twilight of one of St. Petersburg's famous white nights, the dreamer encounters a woman who pulls him out of his dreams. But Nastenka has her own reasons for waiting on the same bench at the same time every day on the banks of the canal. Actress and publishing house founder Meike Rötzer narrates Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s White Nights, drawing us into a tender love story that unfolds over just four nights yet encompasses the longings of two people’s entire lives.
Meike Rötzer completed her acting training at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich. In 1996, she made her debut at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and performed at the Städtische Bühnen Kiel starting in 2000. Further independent productions followed, including at the Theater Berliner Sophiensaele. She has been recording radio plays and audiobooks since 2007. For her work on Katja Petrowskaja’s *Vielleicht Esther*, she was nominated for the German Audiobook Prize in 2023 as Best Narrator. From 2008 to 2022, she worked as an editor for fiction at the publishing house Matthes & Seitz in Berlin. In 2022, Rötzer founded the publishing house Erzählbuchverlag, which condenses plays and novels from world literature and retells them in contemporary language. She performs her solo storytelling pieces at venues including the Deutsches Theater Berlin, literary centers, and salons, and presents storytelling concerts with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra under conductors such as Oscar Jockel. Since 2023, rbb has been broadcasting the storytelling lounge Richtig gutes Zeug!, which she co-founded.
